The Winch Weight is made in the USA out of red, blue or black rot- and mildew-resistant heavyweight nylon. |
Winch Weight
The first thought I had when I saw the Winch Weight was, "Wow what a great idea."
My next thought was, "Why didn’t I think of that?"
This is a simple idea, done well -- and one that for only a few dollars and a little effort could save both life and limb.
Everyone who uses a winch should already know to throw something soft and heavy over the wire rope before making a heavy winch pull. In event of the wire rope's failure, the inertia of the weight will help counter the kinetic energy stored in the stretched winch line. The downside to this safety precaution is that it usually makes for a very dirty -- or possibly even ruined -- jacket or blanket.

The Winch Weight solves this problem. With 1000-denier Cordura-Plus nylon, a water-repellent urethane coating, and stout nylon thread-lock stitching, this bag is an easy-to-pack, hard-to-damage, handy weight bag made just for winching. Velcro-closed pockets on the sides are the perfect place for a pair of gloves, a winch line hook, or the winch remote control.
The Winch Weight is a convenient device designed to hold sand or other weighted objects over a winch cable, in place of shirts or jackets. The Winch Weight will help keep winch cables and/or winching hardware from becoming flying missiles if part of the winching system fails while under stress.
Precautionary Notices |
The manufacturers recommend that you use the Winch Weight (or other form of weight) in addition to other safety measures. These devices do not guarantee that a cable or piece of winching hardware will not become a flying missile should part of the winching system fail. |
Each Winch Weight bag comes with a convenient carrying handle on top the winch weight, making deployment fast and easy. The sand-filled outer sections hang on either side of the winch line and the Velcro-sealed sleeve keeps the weight from sliding to the bottom of a steep pull. Each bag also has Velcro strips on the inside to wrap around the winch cable, keeping the bag in place on even the steepest angles.
The soft-sided Winch Weight packs nicely into any of those tight little spots that every rig has. I keep mine strapped inside my spare tire.
With the Holidays fast-approaching, consider the Winch Weight for your gift list... especially for folks in the 4x4 hobby, where gifts under fifty bucks are pretty hard to find.
